Results Update

With no NH racing until Tuesday at the earliest, January's destined to be a very quiet month for us.

In the meantime, let's get the results up to date, and our latest update starts last Wednesday (9th January) where we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)

1.20        Ludlow                  Ceepeegee                   1pt                           7/1 Bet365/Hills/Coral/Totesport/PP &others

OF INTEREST:

1.40 Doncaster Toby Belch 15/2
2.50 Doncaster Arctic Wings 9/1
3.05 Ludlow Sky Khan 9/2
3.35 Ludlow Feeling Peckish 8/1

Ceepeegee was leading and going along quite nicely until a couple of significant errors completely put him off his stride and he ended up getting pulled up, after starting at 8/1.

Of the "Of Interest" mentions, Toby Belch came clear to win at 11/2, while Arctic Wings (third at 12/1) and Sky Khan (2nd at 3/1) were placed.

On the Thursday we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)

No Selections

OF INTEREST:

1.45 Catterick Danceintothelight 9/2
2.05 Wolverhampton Whipphound 7/1
2.15 Catterick Chac Du Cadran 15/2
3.15 Catterick Hoare Abbey 6/1
3.45 Catterick Gallant Leader 18/1

No selections here. Of the of interest mentions, Chac Du Cadran (11/2sp) won while Hoare Abbey (15/2) came second and Whipphound (4/1) was in a dead-heat for third.

On the Friday we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)

2.40        Sedgefield             Quite Sparky                 1pt                            11/2+generally inc. 6/1 Bluesq/SportingBet

OF INTEREST:

12.50 Huntingdon Gougane 8/1
1.40 Sedgefield Oniz Tiptoes 8/1
1.50 Huntingdon Gee Dee Nen 9/2
2.10 Sedgefield Along Came Rosie 7/1
3.40 Sedgefield Alfapoint 11/2
3.50 Huntingdon Swincombe Stone 5/1

It looked like if we had the measure of the odds-on favourite in the 2.40 at Sedgefield, then we'd probably be in with a shout of winning. As it was, Quite Sparky (7/1sp) did beat Uimhir A Seacht, but faded out of things to finish fourth in the end, after racing a bit too keenly early on.

No winners here among the of interest mentions, but a notable run from Oniz Tiptoes who drifted like a barge before running a stormer, coming second beaten just over three lengths at 20/1sp.

And then on Saturday we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)

2.50         Wetherby             Kent Street                  1pt                           7/1 Hills/Coral/PP/StanJames/Boyles 15/2 Sporting Bet

OF INTEREST:

12.30 Wetherby Shatavodka 11/2
12.40 Warwick Arte Del Calcio 9/1 Witchesintune 14/1
2.25 Warwick Duke Of Monmouth 16/1
3.25 Wetherby Qualitee 11/2
4.05 Warwick Calusa Storm 8/1

Sue Smith's Kent Street was very well backed, although her other runner attracted some support too. Annoyingly for us we were on the wrong one in terms of the result with Kent Street finishing second. But there can be little doubt that if he hadn't have given away tonnes of ground at several of his jumps (kept jumping right throughout) he would have had a cracking chance of winning this one. As it was Kent Street went down by four lengths and his turn will come another day.

Of the Of Interest mentions, no winners but Duke Of Monmouth ran a cracker, getting placed in fourth in the Pertemps qualifier at Warwick (SP 10/1) after looking a strong contender for a long way.

On Sunday we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)

No selections

OF INTEREST:

2.50 Kelso Notonebuttwo 4/1
3.20 Kelso Shooting Times 5/2

Notonebuttwo was a good winner at 5/1, beating a recent selection for us, Political Paddy into second place.

On Monday we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)

 No selections

OF INTEREST:

1.40 Plumpton Goring Two 2/1
3.40 Plumpton Virginia Ash 4/1

Goring Two came third at 15/8, while Virginia Ash was a winner at 7/2sp.

On Tuesday we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)

No selections

OF INTEREST:

1.00 Lingfield Somerby 8/1
2.00 Lingfield Buddy Love 4/1
3.15 Ffos Las Cheat The Cheater 7/2
4.10 Lingfield Hell Hath No Fury 6/1 Midnight Thomas 11/1
4.20 Ffos Las Cash For Steel 15/2

Just a couple of placed efforts here, including Somerby at 6/1sp.

On Wednesday we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)

No selections

OF INTEREST:

2.25 Newbury Mountainous 10/3
4.05 Newbury Silver Story 8/1

Both these were placed, at SPs of 4/1 and 8/1.

On Thursday we finally had a couple of selections, down in Wincanton, and we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)

2.20        Winc                      Webberys Dream                 1pt                            7-1+ inc 8-1 Hills, Boyle,B365

2.50       Winc                        Etxalar                                 1pt                          7-1+ inc 8-1 B365, Boyle,Bet Fred

OF INTEREST:

1.50 Winc  Well Hello There 6-1

Webberys Dream was pretty weak in the market, going off at 11/1, but after losing his pitch early on he stayed on nicely to reward E/W backers in finishing 3rd.

Half an hour later, we had another pretty weak in the markets with Etxalar for Lucinda Russell making the long way trip down from Scotland fading out of contention after starting at 10/1

Well Hello There ran unplaced.

If you're struggling for time..

We very much appreciate that following a horse tipping service day in day out can be quite a task. Family commitments, leisure interests, let alone work can make the pursuit difficult.

So we thought we would take a look at an angle which may suit everyone thinking of getting involved with our service but who thought they may not be able to make the time.

We are going to take a look at horses advised by us at 12/1 or more.

Since January 1st 2010, there have been 181 such horses. That equals out at roughly 6 bets a month. So on 24/25 days of the month, on average, a quick look at the email would mean a no-bet day.

Placing bets on just these horses would have resulted in the following returns:

·         A £5 win-single stake on these horses would have returned £960 profit.
·         A £10 win-single stake on these horses would have returned £1,920 profit.
·         A £20 win-single stake on these horses would have returned £3,840 profit.

Here are the stats.

Bets 181
Wins 24 (13.24%)
2nds 27 (14.91%)
3rds 18 (9.94%)
Placed total: 69 (38.12%)
Profit: +192pts
Return On Investment: +106.08%

Stunning returns, and the number of 2nd placed finishes show that this isn’t just some quirk. Already this year, on Tuesday 8th January, we had a 16/1 (sp) shot beaten an ever diminishing neck at Chepstow. The other day we had a 20/1 (sp) shot in a bumper checked in running twice as he was making a move before being eased down - and still wasn't beaten far.
Our next big priced winner is likely to be just around the corner.

But what about if you can’t get on with the bookies, you’re completely tied up and can’t find the time to place the bet when the email comes through?

Betfair SP could be the answer for you. The bet can be placed at any point, up to seconds before the off, and here are the returns.

·         A £5 win-single stake on these horses at BSP would have returned £459.15 profit.
·         A £10 win-single stake on these horses at BSP would have returned £918.30 profit
·         A £20 win-single stake on these horses at BSP would have returned £1,836.60 profit.

The above returns include the maximum 5% deduction that Betfair imposes on each winning bet, so your personal returns may be even greater. Not including the 5% deduction, BSP profits are +102.82pts, including it, is +89.83pts

Also, the above tallies are to level stakes. By staking cleverly, using percentage based staking (where the bets grow the bigger the bank), much better rewards can be had.

For example, let’s assume you have a £500 bank and place £5 bets at the early prices (i.e 1% of bank), but every time the bank reaches a new high, you find a new 1% figure.

Starting this on January 1st 2010, your bank would have a fantastic £3,063.37.

That’s more than £2,500 profit in just three years just by starting with £5 bets.

Summary of Results

First of all, another mention for our 2012 review, which can be seen here

Now onto our results so far this year, it's been a pretty quiet start to the year, and we went close to a big return today with our 16/1 shot going down by a neck.

Let's start on New Years' Day

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)
1.45         Catterick              Nicene Creed               1pt                           12/1 Hills/Bet365/Totesport/Boyles/BetVictor/Betfred

OF INTEREST:

12.35 Musselburgh Jonny Delta 11/2
1.20 Fakenham Ubaldo Des Menhies 7/1
1.45 Catterick Helium 7/1
2.45 Musselburgh Rumble Of Thunder 6/1
3.15 Exeter Quinte du Chatelet 9/2

Nicene Creed was backed into 13/2 so we really got some good value here, but unfortunately Sophie Leech's 8yo was outpaced as things hotted up and he was eased down towards the finish to end up 6th.

Elsewhere, Ubaldo Des Menhies was a winner for the "of interest" mentions at 15/2sp.

On the 2nd January we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)
No selections

OF INTEREST:

Ayr 1.50 Boris The Blade 9/2
Ayr 2.20 Grand Dianond 10/1
Ayr 2.50 Kudu Country 3/1

No selections, and Kudu Country's second was the best run from the of interests.

On the 3rd January we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)
2.30         Ayr                       Bene Lad                      1pt                          11/2 Bet365/Hills/BetVictor/Skybet/Boyles/SportingBet 6/1 Totesport/Betfred

OF INTEREST:

3.00 Ayr Seven Is Lucky 3/1
3.30 Ayr Dibdabs 13/2

Bene Lad was quite nicely backed into 9/2 but dropped away to finish well beaten.

There was nothing doing among the of interests.

On January 4th we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)
3.40        Musselburgh         Vodka Moon                 0.5pt                        16/1 Bet365/Skybet/Boyles/SportingBet 20/1 Stan James

OF INTEREST:

1.40 Musselburgh Mystified 8/1
2.40 Musselburgh Syndication 11/2
3.20 Lingfield Picture Post 5/1
3.40 Musselburgh Rev Up Ruby 9/2

Vodka Moon went off at 20/1 and actually ran a lot better race than his 7th position suggests. Checked in running a couple of times as he stayed on, he was allowed to cruise for the final 200yds and was only beaten 8 lengths or so by the potentially decent winner.

A couple of placed efforts from the of interest mentions.

On January 5th we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)
No selections

OF INTEREST:

1.05 Newcastle Goodlukin Lucy 15/2 Bunratty 8/1
2.05 Wincanton Willows Saviour 10/1
2.10 Chepstow Shoegazer 4/1
3.00 Sandown Softsong 9/2
3.50 Wincanton Witchesintune 8/1

No selections here, and nothing doing from the of interests apart from a couple of seconds.

On January 6th we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)
2.25          Plumpton            Gilded Age                    1pt                               6/1+generally 13/2 Hills/Totesport 7/1 Stan James

OF INTEREST:

3.30 Plumpton Sherreb 8/1

4.00 Plumpton Rocky Elsom 7/1

Gilded Age went off a solid 9/2 shot and the jock had obviously been told to make sure he was placed as he was ridden all the way to the line to snatch third after being struggling to stay in touch for a while. He was beaten just under ten lengths but was staying on quite nicely towards the end.

Of the of interest mentions, Rocky Elsom won at 6/1sp.

On January 7th we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)
No selections

OF INTEREST:

1.40 Taunton Di Kaprio 9/1
3.10 Taunton Buckie Boy 8/1
3.40 Taunton Kellystown Lad 9/2

No selections here, and Kellystown Lad ran best of the of interests, coming 2nd at 7/2.

Then today (Tuesday) we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)
1.20         Chepstow            Samingarry                    1pt                           14/1 + generally 16/1 Hills/Bet365/Totesport&Others
3.00         Chepstow            Realta Mo Croi             1pt                           13/2+generally 7/1 BetVictor/Totesport/StanJames/BluesSQ&others

OF INTEREST:

1.00 Leicester Reginaldinho 4/1
4.05 Chepstow Dare To Endeavour 7/1

Samingarry was weak in the markets about 20 minutes before the off, but was actually nibbled back in again and started at 16/1. It was interesting support for a horse who had shown nothing previously, and it was clear to us that a decent run was expected. So it proved, with the Nigel Hawke's 6yo staying on really strongly to almost collar the short priced favourite. His jumping was a bit iffy in places, and he was a bit outpaced as things hotted up, but Samingarry pinged the last and was fair charging home with the apprentice jock on the favourite coasting his mount home. We almost got there but went down by a neck.

That was a Neil Mulholland winner in that race, and we were on one of his in the 3.00 but Realta Mo Croi really significantly drifted in the markets, going off at 14/1. This horse was kept out the back, made some nice headway before being eased off. Today was clearly not his day in the end, but we wouldn't be surprised if his talented trainer got him winning somewhere soon.

Of the "of interest" mentions, Regaldinho won after going off a very well backed 2/1.

Summary of Results:

January 1st 2013

Nicene Creed, 6th/7, 12/1 --- 13/2

January 2nd

No selections

January 3rd

Bene Lad, 6th/7, 6/1 -- 9/2

No selections

January 8th

Samingarry, 2nd/9, 16/1 --- 16/1

December Analysis

Another profitable month, to ensure a pleasing end to 2012. Indeed if it wasn't for the tough rain-hit summer months of July and August this year would have been really pretty good. As it is, our strong end to the year ensures we made it another profitable calendar year, and that's really pleasing, even though we finished well below our expectation level.

We'll produce a look back at 2012 as a whole in the next day or two, but for now let's have a look at December's stats:

Bets: 22
Wins: 4 (18.18%
2nds: 3 (13.64%)
3rds: 1 (4.5%
Placed total: 8 (36.37%)
Average odds taken: 7.22/1
Average SP: 6.45/1
Average win odds: 7.25/1
Profit/Loss: +11pts
Return On Investment: +50%

Highlights were our winners, naturally, in particular Bally Sands at 12/1 SP (showing how drifters can win, despite the fact that our strike rate for decent sized drifters drops by more than double). Ballinhassig was a nice pre-Christmas bonus at 9/1 too. Lowlights were the Boxing Day drift on Along Came Rosie - really not what we wanted to see and she ran accordingly, and also the annoying run of ten defeats which meant we had to work at bringing the month back into shape towards the end.

Interestingly, December ended with exactly the same profit as November (+11pts).

The new feature in recent weeks of ours, the "of interest" mentions, seems to have gone down well with subscribers with quite a few reporting good wins on these picks. With winners at up to 14/1 it's been a little frustrating that not more of those that won were not actual selections of ours of course, but we have sound long-term reasons for leaving certain horse profiles out - but we continue to monitor everything and if we wish to return to historic analysis of certain race/horse profiles we can do as we have data going back a long time which we can check over.

Interestingly, we can honestly say that our slightly more selective process since the break, which is partly the reason for our fewer than usual number of selections, has not filtered any of these "of interest" winners from being actual selections. Indeed, we have only gained from our recent selective process. The "of interest" picks that have won have come from long-standing filters which have stood the test of time historically, but as we mention above, we continue to look closely, and maybe there is an argument for loosening up slightly these filters for the biggest prices "of interest" picks (thinking 10/1+ prices perhaps). But at least now, subscribers can decide for themselves should they want to get involved in some/all of these, and we trust that this addition to our service is going down well.

All the best for now,

Sam and The Market Examiner team.

Ending 2012 on a high!

After the spectacular gains seen in 2010 and 2011, 2012 wasn't exactly an easy year for us, we had some tough runs and many many big priced seconds, but at least we ended on a high with our very last bet of the year winning at an SP of 12/1.

We'll post a review of December shortly, as as well as a look back at 2012 as a whole as well, but for now let's have a look at our results since our last proper update.

On Boxing Day we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)
1.15         Sedgefield           Along Came Rosie           1pt                         5/1 generally
2.30         Sedgefield           Sergeant Pink                   1pt                         12/1 Hills/Lads/Totesport/Bluesq 16/1 Stan James
3.20         Fontwell              Buffalo Creek                  1pt                         5/1 genereally

OF INTEREST:

1.20 Towcester Callhimwhatyouwant 7/1
2.05 Fontwell Pass The Time 5/1
2.55 Wetherby Tyrone House 7/1
3.25 Wincanton Mon Chevalier  13/2

Along Came Rosie was a massive drifter, I think our biggest ever, going off at incredible 16/1 at SP and naturally it was no surprise to see her get pulled up.

Much better was from Sergeant Pink who went off at 14/1 but was beaten just two lengths in second, and staying on all the way to the line too.

Buffalo Creek started at 3/1 but was pulled up.

The Of Interest horses produced a blank return.

December 27th we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)
No Selections

OF INTEREST:

4.00      Wolv   Sunrise Dance 14-1

And this was a cracking "of interest" winner, with Sunrise Dancer going off at 6/1, making all and never looking in any danger.

On December 28th we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)
No selections

OF INTEREST:

1.40 Leicester Capellini 6/1
2.10 Leicetser I Can Run Can You 8/1
2.50 Catterick Pamak D'Airy 3/1

Capellini hit a low in-running of 1.08 but finished second, meaning there was no "of interest" winner here.

On December 29th we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)
1.25         Kelso                  Political Paddy               1pt                           6/1 generally 13/2 PP/Boyles
3.30         Kelso                  Stopped Out                  1pt                           9/2 generally

OF INTEREST:

2.30 Newbury Arbeo 9/2
2.55 Doncaster Carpincho 14/1 Brunswick Gold 10/1
3.00 Kelso Snapping Turtle 3/1
3.50 Newbury Chatterbox 5/1

Political Paddy went off at 5/1 but ran no sort of race finishing well beaten.

Much better was from Stopped Out, who after starting at 3/1 made all, quickened clear and won easily, great stuff.

It was also a good day for the "of interest" mentions, with Arbeo and Chatterbox both winning (4/1 and 5/1 sps respectively).

On December 30th we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)
No Selections

OF INTEREST:

Taunton 3.30 Kartanian 7/1
Taunton 4.00 Jupiter Rex 12/1

Another good day here for the Of Interest runners, with Jupiter Rex winning at Taunton after going off at 5/1.

On New Year's Eve we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)
2.10         Uttoxeter              South O'The Border         1pt                       10/1+generally inc. 11/1 Hills/Totesport/Boyles/BetFred/SportingBet
3.10         Uttoxeter              Bally Sands                      1pt                       7/1 generally 8/1 PP/Coral/SportingBet 17/2 Stan James

OF INTEREST:

12.40 Uttoxeter Mirific 10/1
2.40 Uttoxeter Molko Jack 7/2

South O'The Border ran no sort of race, pulling up after starting at 8/1.

Bally Sands was our final pick of 2012 and it wasn't pleasing to see him drift alarmingly to 12/1 - but contrary to what we would usually expect he ran an absolute cracker, always there or thereabouts and pinging the last hurdle to win by half a length, a terrific winner.

No successs here for the of interest picks, with both running unplaced.

On New Years' Day we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)
1.45         Catterick              Nicene Creed               1pt                           12/1 Hills/Bet365/Totesport/Boyles/BetVictor/Betfred

OF INTEREST:

12.35 Musselburgh Jonny Delta 11/2
1.20 Fakenham Ubaldo Des Menhies 7/1

Nicene Creed went off a solid 13/2 chance so we certainly had the value, but he never really looked like getting involved, finishing 6th.

Ubaldo Des Menhies was a winner for the mentions list, after starting at 17/2.

All in all from Christmas Day to New Years morning, we saw a nice 11.5pts of profit, and many subscribers have benefitted too from our "of interest" picks going in at regular intervals too, some at very good prices (unfortunately not backed by us we hasten to add!).

A cracking end to 2012 and we'll be back soon with a look at December as a whole.
