Midweek update

Just the one actual selection since our winner on Sunday, with Quinte du Chatelet unseating at Leicester yesterday.

Let's start on Monday where we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)

No selections

OF INTEREST:

3.10 Plumpton Tornado In Milan 5/2
4.10 Plumpton Heros Call 7/1 & Acosta 12/1
4.40 Plumpton Southway Queen 6/1 & The Saucy Snipe 25/1

A decent enough day for those who like to play each way multiples on our selections, with Tornado In Milan winning and Acosta and Southway Queen coming second (Heros Call also came third). Southway Queen (10/1sp) actually traded at 1.23 in running before being collared by a short-head.

On Tuesday we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)

5.00         Leicester              Quinte Du Chatelet        1pt                            4/1Coral/Totesport/BetFred/Sky

OF INTEREST:

2.20 Catterick Avanos 6/1
4.20 Catterick Soft Spoken Guy 12/1
4.50 Catterick Vosges 10/3 & The Black Lion 16/1

There was a lot of support about for David Pipe's Quinte Du Chatelet, going off 10/3f in the end. Sadly we'll only know in his coming runs if that cash was well placed as Tom Bellamy came off him at the third fence. The horse made a mistake, jumped too soon and Tom couldn't stay in the saddle unfortunately.

Elsewhere, Vosges ran best of all of the of interest horses, but could only finish second.

Today (Wednesday) we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)

No selections

OF INTEREST:

2.30 Wincanton Boomtown Kat 10-1
4.10 Lingfield Monsieur Cadou 5-1
4.30 Wincanton Qrackers 8-1

No selections today then, and of the interest horses, Boomtown Kat was smashed into, going off at 4/1 in the end before finishing well behind, while Monsiur Cadou came third at 6/1sp.

So we go onto the final day of the month tomorrow and hopefully we can finish what's been a good February with a bang.

Speedy winner

A profitable weekend, thanks to today's emphatic winner of the feature race at Towcester, Speedy Bruere, our only selection of the day.

Similarly yesterday we had just the one selection, though not the same result. We had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)

4.30         Chepstow              Autumn Haze               1pt                          12/1 Bet365/Lads/BetVictor/PP/Totesport/Boyles/BetFred/SportingBet/Bluesq

OF INTEREST:

2.10 Chepstow De La Bech 4/1 & Okafranca 20/1
2.40 Kempton Theatre Guide 7/1
3.55 Chepstow Captain Sharpe 14/1
4.25 Kempton Gormanstown Cuckoo 14/1

Autumn Haze went off at 12/1 but unfortunately a big mistake at the third completely halted his rhythm, with Christian Williams doing well to stay in the saddle, losing his irons in the process. He never looked like getting back involved after that and may be one for another day.

De La Bech ran best of the mentions, finishing second after not being helped by a poor jump at the last.

On to today and we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)

3.25         Towcester            Speedy Bruere              1pt                           4/1 Bet365/Coral/PP

OF INTEREST:

2.50 Towcester Lady Romanza 7/1
3.15 Fontwell Time To Think 7/2
3.25 Towcester Handsome Buddy 14/1
4.00 Towcester Top Benefit 11/1
4.30 Towcester Ballyhilty Bridge 6/1
5.20 Fontwell Alfie Alexander 12/1

Speedy Bruere won in France before today and was heavily backed this morning, though was allowed to drift during the day, mainly thanks to support for one or two others, before being backed in again on course to 11/2. I bet connections couldn't believe the SP, and it was good for us too with bog in play. He always travelled strongly and was never in danger of losing after jumping into the lead two out. He ended up winning eased down, obviously nicely ahead of the handicapper and a nice pay-day for all concerned, great stuff.

Time To Think won for the of interest horses (4/1sp).

Summary of Results:

23rd February 2013:

Autumn Haze, PU/13, 12/1 --- 12/1

24th February 2013:

Speedy Bruere, 1st/10, 4/1 --- 11/2

We're nicely up for the month and look nigh-on certain to register our third profitable month out of four since coming back after our Autumn break last year with our slightly more selective selection process. There's a lot to be said for forcing through profits by sheer number of selections, but we're comfortable with how things are going at the moment in terms of trying to select quality over quantity. The Of Interest mentions we feel is going well, in as much as for those keen for a bit more action, can have it should they wish.

A good February so far, thanks in no small part to Barizan's superb success at 25/1 on Tuesday.

February 18th 2013:

Timeforagin, 8th/12, 12/1 --- 9/1

February 19th 2013:

Barizan, 1st/6, 14/1 --- 25/1

Februay 20th 2013:

Solway Sam, 8th/16, 20/1 --- 14/1
Pliny, 9th/13, 16/1 --- 18/1

February 21st 2013:

Kindly Note, 3rd/9, 8/1 --- 12/1

February 22nd 2013:

Walden Prince, 9th/12, 14/1 --- 8/1

Barizan obviously the highlight, winning a cracking 2m1f handicap hurdle at Taunton. Evan Williams' 7yo had been nicely backed in the morning but support came for one or two others throughout the day, which led to the drift for the selection. He was ridden approaching three out and it looked like he would be up against it, but he really began to power home going over the last to win in the last 50yds, brilliant stuff.

Elsewhere, Walden Prince ran well for a long time today at Sandown after being very nicely backed but faded towards the end to eventually finish well beaten. Solway Sam looked promising for a while too, while Kindly Note at Sedgefield stayed on into third but was well beaten by the front pair, a mistake three out not helping her cause.

Elsewhere, of the 26 "Of Interest" mentions since Feb 11th, four have won, including three in the last couple of days, and six have come second, resulting in a small loss of 4.75pts for those following them.

Cracking day

We'll put up a full results update soon, but just wanted to post a quick note to mention our cracking 25/1sp winner today for us, from our one selection for the day, Barizan, in the 3.40 at Taunton.

Fantastic stuff!

Evan Williams' 7yo hit a massive 320 in running but stayed on really well to win by more than a length in the end.

We'll be doing our level best to keep it going tomorrow, and a results update will follow soon. It's been quite a quiet run in terms of numbers of selections recently, but we're trying to make it a case of quality over quantity and more days like today will keep things pushing forward very nicely indeed.

All the best for now,

Sam and The Market Examiner team.

Summary of Results

Good evening,

This month we've had ten selections so far, of which one has won, two narrowly beaten into second, another couple finishing third and a well backed type unseating at the second fence. All in all pretty frustrating but most selections are running pretty well and we just need a bit of a break to get us back firing again.

Our latest results update starts from Tuesday 5th February, where we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)

3.30         Market Rasen        Balbriggan                     1pt                          9/2+generally inc. 5/1 Totesport/PP/Betfred

OF INTEREST:

2.30 Market Rasen Gallox Bridge 3/1
3.00 Market Rasen Milan Royale 6/1 & Koultas King 14/1

Balbgriggan went off a nicely backed 7/2 and ran well enough for a good while but a couple of poor jumps didn't help his cause and he was pulled up soon afterwards.

Of the mentions, Gallox Bridge won for Tim Vaughan at an SP of 7/4, while Koultas King came second at 16/1.

On Wedensday 6th February we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)

3.15         Ludlow                 All Annalena                1pt                            8/1 Bet365/Coral/BetVictor/SportingBet/Bluesq 9/1 Boyles

OF INTEREST:

2.10 Ludlow Big News 5/1
4.35 Carlisle Master Milan 7/2
4.55 Ludlow Copper Birch 2/1

All Annalena went off at 11/2 and ran prominently for much of the race before fading as things really got serious, finishing fourth.

Of the "of interest" horses, Big News won at an SP of 10/3.

Thursday 7th February :

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)

2.50         Taunton                  Tornado In Milan         1pt                         5/1 Bet365/Totesport/Betfred/Boyles/Skybet
3.55         Taunton                  Black Coffee                1pt                         12/1 generally 14/1 Boyles
4.35         Doncaster               Jack The Gent             1pt                         5/1 generally 6/1 SportingBet
EARLY SELECTIONS:

2.05         Huntingdon           Croco Mister                 1pt                         9/2 Hills/Coral/BetVictor/Boyles/SportingBet
3.25         Taunton                Tarabela                        1pt                          6/1 generally 13/2 Bluesq

OF INTEREST:

3.15 Huntingdon Zamdy Man 3/1
3.45 Huntingdon Baby Shine 4/1
4.45 Huntingdon Mollys A Diva 4/1

This was a busy day, with early selections posted for the first time this year, one of which who won at an SP of 6/1, Tarabela.

Tarabela ran really well always going nicely and just quickened clear to do it comfortably.

Elsewhere, Jack The Gent was collared on the line after trading for more than £30,000 at 1.01, pretty sickening, while of the mention horses, Mollys A Diva won at an SP of 8/1.

8th February 2013:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)

1.50         Newcastle           Blazing Diva                   1pt                          8/1 generally 9/1 Coral/BetVictor 10/1 Stan James
2.15         Kempton             Miss Tenacious              1pt                          6/1 generally 13/2 BetVictor/Bluesq 7/1 Totesport

OF INTEREST:

2.35 Bangor Ballytober 13/2
4.00 Kempton Renard D'Irlande 3/1
4.40 Newcastle Northern Acres 7/2

After just missing out with Jack The Gent we had another almost as unlucky here with Blazing Diva (7/1SP) going down by a 1/4 length after being checked in running when making a late surge towards the line. While it's very unlikely she would have been handed the race because of the rules here in the UK, she probably would have won had the winner not crossed onto the rail in front of her. The winner's jockey got a warning from the stewards but otherwise no action was taken.

Miss Tenacious was nicely backed going off at 9/2 but the support went awry after she unseated at the second.

Of the Of Interest horses, Northern Acress won at an SP of 7/2.

On Saturday 9th February we had no selections, but four of interest:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)

No selections

OF INTEREST:

1.15 Newbury Milord 12/1
2.15 Uttoxeter The Boogeyman 11/2
3.25 Uttoxeter Radmores Revenge 11/1
4.40 Newbury Vago Collonges 3/1

No winners here among the mention horses, but they all were placed offering nice returns to subscribers playing e/w lucky 15s.

And then today, 10th February we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)

No selections

OF INTEREST:

3.30 Exeter Golden Chieftan 6/1

Golden Chieftan stayed on into third in the mud at Exeter today, after going off at 4/1.

Summary of Results

5th February 2013:

Balbriggan, PU/10, 5/1 --- 7/2

6th February 2013:

All Annalena, 4th/9, 8/1 --- 11/2

7th February 2013:

Croco Mister, 4th/8, 9/2 --- 4/1
Tornado In Milan, 3rd/6, 5/1 --- 9/2
Tarabela, 1st/10, 6/1 --- 6/1
Black Coffee, PU/16, 14/1 --- 18/1
Jack The Gent, 2nd/7, 5/1 --- 9/2

8th February 2013:

Blazing Diva, 2nd/8, 9/1 --- 7/1
Miss Tenacious, UR/7, 7/1 --- 9/2

9th February 2013:

No selections

No selections

Given Jack The Gent and Blazing Diva's runs it really is something we're not in profit for this month yet (-3pts at present) but hopefully fate will swing back in our favour in the week ahead!

Sympathies to Darlan connections

No return yesterday from our one selection on a day which was overshadowed by the tragic death of the very promising Darlan after he fell at the last. AP McCoy gave up his remaining rides in the wake of Darlan's loss and everyone with an interest in racing will want to extend sympathy to JP McManus, Nicky Henderson and the rest of the team behind the horse.

We had:

 TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)

2.25       Donc                    Netminder                            1pt                     9-2+ inc 5-1 B365,PPower,SJames,Tote; 11-2 BetVic

OF INTEREST:

3.30 Donc Luccombe Chine 9-1

4.05 Be My Deputy 11-2

Netminder, ran well for a time before fading to finish a very poor fourth after going off at 4-1.

Some better news from one of our “of interest” runners as Be My Deputy was in the first two throughout and won well at 9-2.

Results Update

We hope you're well. Sadly no winners to report from our four selections since the weather began to improve and we're in the midst of a pretty frustrating run since the turn of the year. We're extremely confident things will turn around soon enough however, and we look forward to that being the case.

While our first actual selection since our last update was on the 30th January, there were two days of racing amidst a weather-decimated period and we had a few "of interest" horses to briefly look at.

23rd January:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)
No selections

OF INTEREST:

1.10 Ayr Shanroe Secret 25/1
2.40 Ayr Top Secret 7/4 & Agglestone Rock 10/1
3.40 Ayr Too Cool To Fool 7/1

A nice winner among the "of interest" picks here with Too Cool To Fool winning at a massive 12/1 at SP

26th January:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)
No selections

OF INTEREST:

12.40 Cheltenham Renard Dirlande 8/1
2.45 Leopardstown Canaly 9/1
4.10 Cheltenham Mr Watson 11/4

Mr Watson was a winner for the mentions, at an SP of 11/4.

Another few days of without NH racing followed before we were finally back in action on the 30th January:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)
3.00         Leicester              Amroth Bay                   1pt                          6/1 Coral/PaddyPower/Stan James/SkyBet/Bluesq 13/2 SportingBet
4.30         Leiecester             Refusal                          1pt                          9/2 Hills/BetVictor/Boyles/Skybet/Bluesq

OF INTEREST:

2.00 Leicester Seventh Hussar 12/1
2.40 Ludlow Egretta Island 12/1

Amroth Bay went off at 15/2 and ran well enough for a long way before fading towards the end to finish well beaten,

Refusal started at 4/1 and was being urged along all too early before staying on towards the end and actually wasn't beaten that far in the end, finishing in an unplaced third.

Of the mentions, Seventh Hussar ran a huge race in finishing second, going off at 14/1 and going down by a rapidly diminishing 3/4 length, despite the winner coming right over to the rail and forcing him to check his run 100yds from home.

We had a big priced selection to finish January:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)
2.20         Towcester             Ruby Crown                1pt                           16/1 generally 18/1 Coral/BetVictor

OF INTEREST:

Wincanton 2.40 Politeo 9/2 Milarrow 7/1
Towcester 3.20 Viva Steve 5/1

Ruby Crown went off at 16/1 and ran ok for long enough but ended well beaten.

Of the "Of Interest" mentions, in the 2.40, Politeo won with Milarrow into second, paying a nice £44.70 on the exacta for those who had a dabble at that (not us, incidentally..) Politeo won at 11/2 SP by eight lengths.

Viva Steve  came second

On 1st February we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)
3.55         Catterick               Papa Caruso                1pt                          7/1 Bet365/Hills/PaddyPower/Totesport&others

OF INTEREST:

3.55 Catterick Categorical 7/2

Papa Caruso ran a good race, touching nearly 7/4 in running after starting at 13/2, but couldn't hold off the challengers in the end and faded a touch towards the end to finish third.

Categorial ran unplaced.

Then today, 2nd February we had:

TIME     COURSE            SELECTION              0.5pt/1pt/2pt win    Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)
No selections

OF INTEREST:

1.00 Wetherby Billy Twyford 11/2
3.45 Ffos Las Jumps Road 9/1
4.10 Sandown Oscar Davy 5/1
4.20 Ffos Las Bygones Sovereign 11/1

Of the "Of Interest" horses, Billy Twyford just got up on the line to win at an SP of 7/1, continuing a very good recent run for the mention horses.

Here's to this improving weather sticking around leading to a good week of action to come.

All the best,

Sam & The Market Examiner team
