End of an era - and the start of a new one

A happy evening after another cracking day, with 16 more points safely wrestled from the bookies satchel. But quite an emotional evening in many ways too, as I have been blogging selections and results on this site now for 18 months. Today was the last day selections will be posted here before racing, but I will continue to assess results on this blog so those who are not subscribers can see how we are getting along come November.

The new service will be proofed to a proofing website - almost certainly www.racingproofing.com .

I have following market moves since 2003 and the results now are as good as they have ever been. Over the course of time, there will always be poor runs, particularly backing at win only at odds averaging around 7/1, but in due course I am absolutely certain that profits will continue to come. For my mind following the market is one of the few successful "systems" in the racing world which cannot be eroded over time.

Joining up with my father as a business partner, we will continue to do all we can to make sure subscribers get the best picks every morning from November. We do think our subscription rates really are very reasonable, starting at just £13.33 a month, and would love to have you on board.

A reminder of the website - http://www.themarketexaminer.co.uk/

On the blog in the coming weeks we will be displaying various analysis of results, as we try to keep things ticking over while we wait for November.

Thanks for reading,

CD

Four today

So our last email of selections for a couple of months, let's hope we can end with a winner or two.

We'll be sending out a reminder of why we pause for September and October this evening, together with a little bit of what you may be expect from us before we reach November.

In the meantime, good luck to:

Ripon 3.00 Falkland Flyer 12/1 Totesport 11/1 Skybet Boyles 2pt win

Leicester 4.40 Tamasou 6/1 Bet365 and others 1pt win

Newton Abbot 4.55 Lansdowne Princess 10/1 Bet365 2pt win

Ripon 5.05 Desert Hunter 6/1 Bet365 Lads and others 1pt win

Another absolutely superb day, thanks to Lansdowne Princess' gutsy win at Newton Abbot. Connections must have thought she was well treated on her chase rating and indeed she was, to land a sizeable gamble, breaking her maiden tag at the 37th attempt. She was being scrubbed along quite early to keep in touch but then relentlessly stayed on and put in a terrific jump at the last to help get her up by a neck. It left the day 16pts in profit, thanks to the 2pt staked.

The other two pointer, Falkland Flyer, also continued to be nicely backed, but was well beaten.

Things didn't go to plan with Tamasou, who drifted before the off and didnt' do a lot. Desert Hunter finished quite strongly in his race at Ripon, but could only manage third.

It all means the month moves above the 60pt profit mark - a very nice way to sign off as we now pause the service until November.

Confirmation of results with sps:

Falkland Flyer, 8th/8, 15/2

Tamasou, 6th/12, 8/1

Lansdowne Princess, 1st/6, 11/2

Desert Hunter, 3rd/9, 11/2

Eight today

An extremely busy day today, with eight selections

Bath 2.40 Regal Bullet 20/1 Bet365 1pt win

Cartmel 2.55 Murphys Beau 11/1 Will Hill 1pt win

Bath 4.25 Mr Money Maker 12/1 Coral 1pt win

Newcastle 4.35 Leitzu 9/2 Ladbrokes 2pt win

Bath 5.00 Aspirational 9/1 Paddy Power (10/1 Betfred) 8/1 generally 2pt win

Ripon 5.20 Dazakhee 5/1 Totesport Skybet (11/2 Sportingbet) 1pt win

Epsom 5.30 King Columbo 5/1 Bet365 Will Hill 2pt win

Newcastle 6.15 Mango Music 6/1 Bet365 1pt win

Well this is a day which could have been spectacularly good, even better than Saturday, but things just slipped away in the end. One 12/1 winner ensured a 3pt profit from the seven selections which ran, but a 25/1 (b.o.g) 2nd - beaten 3/4 length - two other seconds (7/1(b.o.g) and 5/1adv) and another two placed efforts in third. So from the 7 selections, 6 placed at an average price returned (either EP or with best odds guaranteed) of 10/1. So even though a profit's a profit, and the selections ran well, there's a sense of what may have been.

It all started with Regal Bullet, who was nicely backed this morning in the nursery at Bath, from 40s in places, and then ran a cracker, finishing a fast finishing second, winning his race in many ways, but beaten by Ruby Alexander who finished even faster on the rail. The layers got stuck in on betfair after about 11.30, pushing the selection out notably in price so he opened at 40s on track, probably because of the zero form he'd had shown previously. There were enough signs this morning that much better was expected though, and the exchange layers almost got their fingers badly burnt.

Murphys Beau didn't do a lot at Cartmel beaten a distance but plugged on into third. After being backed at 11/1 this morning, he went off a really well backed 7/2, so safe to say more was expected (after four PUs in a row). At least he picked up the place money for those backing each way.

Then came along Mr Money Maker, who broke smartly and was given a really positive ride, to win after leading virtually the whole way. A cracking 12/1 winner, which Coral settled at, despite a few non-runners. At that point the day was always going to be in profit and it was a case of settling down and hopefully seeing one or two more go in.

Leitzu was another to finish third, running a pretty decent race but a fair way behind the front two.

It was Aspirational up next at Bath. This was a funny one, because while he was extremely soundly beaten in the end, he actually was going pretty well a couple of furlongs from home with many looking flat to the boards. Sadly he then hit a wall and just dropped away.

Dazakhee was a non runner. Then came King Columbo at Epsom, another selection beaten less than a length. After being really well backed, he looked a very likely winner for Tom Queally, trading short in running entering the final furlong, but he was sadly reeled in by Mr Harmoosh in the last 100 yards or so. Fair play to the winner, he looked really well beaten a couple of furlongs out but he stayed on really well.

Mango Music was the final pick of the day, and the third second placed finish. He ran well enough, leading about a furlong from home, but he was readily picked off by the winner to go down just over a couple of lengths.

All in all a day of decent performances and a couple of frustrating results, but three point profit is good to keep things ticking over. It's the final day of August tomorrow, and so the final day of selections for a couple of months. Let's hope we can end with another winner or two.

Confirmation of results with sps:

Regal Bullet, 2nd/15, 25/1

Murphys Beau, 3rd/8, 7/2

Mr Money Maker, 1st/12, 8/1

Leitzu, 3rd/10, 5/1

Aspirational, 10th/12, 7/1

Dazakhee, NR

King Columbo, 2nd/7, 10/3

Mango Music, 2nd/13, 7/1

One today

After a great day yesterday, it would have been lovely to crack into a few more selections today.

But despite a busy morning of activity, and quite a few of interest, we have just one pick.

Yarmouth 4.55 Tiger Star 9/2 Will Hill 4/1 generally 1pt win

Things back to earth a little after the excitement of Saturday, with Tiger Star flopping after being extremely well backed into 2/1 from the morning price of 9/2.

Confirmation of result with sp:

Tiger Star, 6th/7, 2/1

Six today

A busy day today as we look to start the Bank Holiday weekend with a bang.

Plenty of movement about and these make the grade for us:

Beverley 2.25 Shotley Mac 12/1 Will Hill

Newmarket 3.20 Mon Cadeaux 9/1 generally 1pt win

Cartmel 4.20 Front Rank 11/2 Will Hill and others 2pt win

Goodwood 4.50 Alice Alleyne 8/1 Ladbrokes 2pt win

Windsor 5.10 Tecktal 12/1 Totesport 2pt win

Beverley 5.15 Cherri Fosfate 11/2 Bet365, Will Hill and others 2pt win

Wow, what a day. After numerous near misses and frustrating twists and turns, things rebound in a spectacularly successful way with a whopping 45pt profit in a single day. Four wins out of six, at 12/1, 8/1 and two at 5/1 (after non-runners) was just fantastic, and to see three 2pt selections win made things even sweeter.

It all started with Shotley Mac skipping away from the field to score in what appeared a competitive handicap at Beverley. Always there or thereabouts, he showed a terrific turn of foot for Franny Norton to win easily and continue his good relationship with the track.

Mon Cadeaux went off a shade shorter than we backed at, but was never in it in the Hopeful Stakes at Newmarket.

Then came winner number two, Front Rank always going nicely for Emma Sayer, she gave him a cracking ride to score very easily and win the Cartmel Cup for the second year running. This settled at 5/1 after one non runner.

Half an hour later another 16pts were bagged, when Alice Alleyne held on for an inspired Kieran Fallon. She looked to have the race put to bed just under a furlong out but Gouray Girl came really strongly and almost got there but the selection had already done enough. On another day our Alice would have been caught but not today. Really pleased with the SP here as well, 8/1 advised and she went off at half that.

Tecktal ran ok for a while in the first at Windsor, going off at 8/1 with the 12/1 taken this morning, but he faded out of it.

Already the day was in cracking profit, but there was time for another 10pts in the bag, with Cherri Fosfate seemingly relishing the return to 10furlongs. He showed a smart turn of foot going into the last furlong to pull clear from the field and galloped all the way to the line to win comfortably. Unfortunately a R4 meant we only got the 5/1 rather than 11/2 backed at this morning, but still a cracking result.

In times like this it is important to not get too carried away of course. Days like this are unusual, just as the dreadful month of June was unusual. We should probably treat those imposters just the same, as someone once said. But my word this is the sort of imposter we don't mind, a great day indeed.

We only back selections as win singles, and wouldn't advise anything other than that, but we've been told of one email subscriber who's made over £2000 today with a 30p each way heinz on the selections here, very nice!

We've been chipping away for the last few weeks in terms of results, winning a few, losing a few, getting unlucky here and there. In all this time though the vast majority of selections have been going off shorter than advised in the morning, and that - statistically speaking - should eventually pay off. Today it appeared that is what happened. It means 2010 is now up nearly 150pts up, a pleasing total for sure. Hopefully we can add another point or two to the tally before the break in September and October. Then we'll be back firing to crack on again on November 1st. Really hope you can join us for that - don't forget to check the website for details on how - a subscription starts at just £13.33 a month. www.themarketexaminer.co.uk

today's selections

A lot of racing about today but only one selection for us; this one ran on Wednesday and is being turned out quickly at Thirsk where he won on his only other run at the track at today's distance. Good luck to:

Thirsk 3.15 Kings Point 7-1 S James, Lads, Tote. 1pt win

Well we got the price with Kings Point, who continued to be nicely backed, and he ran a decent race, staying on well in the closing stages but unfortunately he never really threatened the winner, finishing fourth. We're looking forward to our final weekend of action before the break. Let's hope it's a profitable one.

Confirmation of result with sp:

Kings Point, 4th/11, 5/1

Five today

A nice winner yesterday which returned at 10s with Best Odds Guaranteed. Today is shaping up to be a busy one with some interesting moves in the market and we have five selections, one a 2 pointer. So all the best to:

Ayr 2.40 Fleet Captain 5-1 general

Ayr 4.10 The Mighty Mod 6-1 general

F Las 4.20 Hollow Green 6-1 general 2 Pts win

Ayr 4.40 Lees Anthem 9-2 B365, Skybet (5-1 SportingBet)

Ayr 5.15 Bourse 15-2 P Power, 7s general

Well a cracking start here with Fleet Captain powering home in his nursery at Ayr. At that point, with Lees Anthem being a non-runner, a profit was assured for the day which is always a nice position to be in. However it's frustrating when things aren't built on, and the day slipped away in the end. The Mighty Mod really looked a likely winner close to home, trading at 1.36 in running, but was just collared and ended finishing third, beaten a neck and a short head.

Hollow Green ran an absolute stinker, clearly much more was expected but she was just never travelling. Bourse was also disappointing. It all ended in a 1pt profit for the day.

Confirmation of results with sps:

Fleet Captain, 1st/13, 5/1

The Mighty Mod, 3rd/12, 9/2

Hollow Green, 7th/7, 6/1

Lees Anthem, NR

Bourse, 5th/10, 6/1

Three today

We have three selections this morning, with the last of them being particularly well backed at the moment. All the best to:

Bri 3.30 Plan A 6-1 S James, Boyle. 1 Pt win

Ayr 3.40 Billy Dane 7-1 general 1 Pt win

F Las 7.20 Quattrocentro 9-1 tote, Boyle, Coral 2 Pt Win

Well the week bounces back nicely into profit with Plan A's really gutsy win at Brighton. Always travelling well, William Carson gave him a cracking ride to drive him into the lead in a three way battle in the last furlong. The horse was very well backed in the morning but drifted on track, we almost got 12/1 thanks to best odds guaranteed, but it ended up at 10s. While we didn't beat SP with the winner, we did comfortably with the couple that didn't do the business, which is quite ironic. Billy Dane continued to be well backed into 5/1 at the off but faded hugely after leading early on. Quattrocentro drifted a bit on track but was still 2.5pts shorted than backed at at the off. A really poor display of jumping put pay to his chances and he was well beaten, one for another day perhaps.

Confirmation of results with sps:

Plan A, 1st/13, 10/1

Billy Dane, 10th/12, 5/1

Quattrocento, 9th/12, 13/2

Tuesday, 24 August 2010

Three today

We have three selections today, a couple at Yarmouth and another over the sticks at Sedgefield.

Good luck to:

Yar 3.00 Amwell Pinot 6-1 Boyle, 5s general 2pt win

Sedg 4.45 Humourous 16/1 Coral Betfred Boylesports 1pt win

Yar 5.00 Little Scotland 13-2 Tote, 6s general 2pt win

A pretty painful day with five points dropped. Amwell Pinot ran pretty well, beaten just under two lengths but was never really going to trouble the winner. Humourous was hugely hampered half way round by a fallen horse and just seemed to lose his action thereafter, although whether he'd have won is debateable. Little Scotland was being scrubbed along from midway, but was staying on when she was checked in running more than once, and pushed wide. Possibly would have been interesting given a free passage but we'll never know!

Amwell Pinot, 3rd/5, 7/1

Humourous, 10th/11, 12/1

Little Scotland, 4th/7, 11/2

We have just one runner going for us today and we have to wait for the evening racing. So good luck to:

Winds 6.15 Takeaway 11-2 VCBet, S James, Coral, 5s general 1pt

After a good Sunday, the week starts poorly with Takeaway putting in a really flat performance and being very well beaten. At

One today

A couple of decent efforts, including a second yesterday and a frustrating non-runner, and we'll be updating the results tonight.

Today quite a busy morning of market activity for a Sunday, and a few of interest, but just one selection.

Good luck to:

Newton Abbot 3.30 Raslan 8/1 Bet365 and others 1pt win

A really good end to the week, with Raslan following up his success in the race 12 months ago after dropping back down the handicap in recent months. Heavily backed in the morning, he actually drifted a tad on track to go off 15/2, which is what Bet365 has settled at, with best odds guaranteed in play after a couple more non-runners.

A terrific performance, Raslan looked to be tiring a tad out front, but they all were behind too on soft ground, and the selection stayed on again to win by more than three lengths.

It's been a funny week, with a string of pretty good performances but not many returns, and it's nice to go into the next seven days on the back of a good winner.

Confirmation of result with sp:

Raslan, 1st/13, 15/2

Saturday, 21 August 2010

Four today

We look to build on yesterday's profitable day with four selections today:

Ripon 2.00 Jade 13/2 Will Hill (7/1 Bet Fred Stan James) 1pt win

Ripon 4.10 Gap Princess 13/2 Paddy Power and others (7/1 Sportingbet) 1pt win

Newton Abbot 4.55 Lets Get Cracking 7/1 VC Betfred 2pt win

Bath 6.05 Secret Witness 13/2 generally 1pt win

No returns today, and an annoying non-runner who had a very interesting profile and had been heavily backed. Lets Get Cracking may be one to watch out for next time.

Jade ran quite well in the opener at Ripon, but sadly not well enough for us, coming fourth on her first appearance on a track.

Gap Princess put in a bit of a shocker to be well beaten. Secret Witness was one of two to finish well ahead of the field, but went down by a length to finish second.

Confirmation of results with sps:

Jade, 4th/16, 13/2
Gap Princess, 9th/15, 6/1
Secret Witness, 2nd/8, 4/1

Friday, 20 August 2010

Four today

A busier day today, with four selections, and we return to York with one of them:

York 2.50 Palace Moon 5/1 generally 1pt win

Bangor 3.40 Alazan 11/2 Bet365 1pt win

Sandown 3.50 Julienas 11/2 Boylesports Skybet 2pt win

Salisbury 4.55 Strike Force 7/1 Skybet 1pt win

A pretty good day performance wise, with three decent efforts, with none beaten that far, along with a easy winner in Alazan.

Alazan led pretty much the whole way and stayed on nicely to win by five lengths. Palace Moon finished pretty well after starting slowly but went down by a couple of lengths. Julienas was switched and finished again quite well but was never quite going the pace needed. Strike Force finished a close up third after being a fair bit off the pace.

Confirmation of results with sps:

Palace Moon, 4th/10, 5/1

Alaza, 1st/9, 11/4

Julienas, 5th/15, 6/1

Strike Force, 3rd/13, 6/1

Two today

Another near miss yesterday but let's hope we go one better with one of these, with in form Keiren Fallon on board the Oaks runner up as she goes for the Yorkshire equivalent:

Strat 2.05 Bazart 6-1 general, 7s Betfred 1pt win

York 3.25 Meeznah 12-1 Lads, W Hill, Skybet, B365 1pt win

Slow going this week, with not many selections and a good smattering of frustrations.
Bazart was really well backed into 7/2 but had no sort of race, hampered by a loose horse which seemed to really put him off his stride.

At least Meeznah got further than Sariska in the Yorkshire Oaks, but although she stayed on quite well she was never troubling the fabulously impressive Midday. At least we beat SP again though which over time will keep us in profits.

Confirmation of results with sps:

Bazart, 6th/10, 7/2

Meeznah, 4th/8, 10/1

Wednesday, 18 August 2010

Two today

Quite a busy day of market activity but we have just two selections which make the grade.

Good luck to:

Carlisle 3.15 Elusive Sue 13/2 Coral 2pt win

Hamilton 4.50 Graceful Descent 6/1 bet365 and others 1pt win

Another frustrating day, with Elusive Sue looking like a very possible winner at Carlisle, really going well a furlong or two from home but just not picking up well enough close to home and finishing a fairly close up third.

About an hour and a half later, Graceful Descent was squeezed out of things a little a furlong from home and ran on to finish second.

So another couple of decent placed efforts, but no returns for win only backers of course. It feels like only a matter of time before things will really spark into life, let's just hope it happens sooner rather than later.

Confirmation of results with sps:

Elusive Sue, 3rd/8, 13/2

Graceful Descent, 2nd/11, 5/1

Tuesday, 17 August 2010

Two today

A couple of selections today, but they're both two point choices.

Good luck to:

Brighton 3.10 Mottys Gift 15/2 Coral 7/1 Will Hill 2pt win

Brighton 5.55 Elhamri 9/1 Coral 8/1 in places elsewhere 2pt win

Not happening today, although Elhamri ran a cracking race in the last at Brighton, losing to a course specialist in Magical Speedfit. It was a funny race, with the selection one of only three horses to stay on the far rail coming round the final bend. He picked up well, finished quickly but couldn't live with the winner on the near side going down by a couple of lengths. A strange drift before the off given how well he ran, and it would have been a cracking return. At least those who prefer each way staking would have made a bit. Earlier in the day, Motty's Gift ran so poorly it wasn't true, finishing tailed off a distance. This surely wasn't really his true running. It all adds up to four points lost on the day and we look forward to better tomorrow.

Confirmation of results with sps:

Mottys Gift, 11th/12, 5/1
Elhamri, 2nd/9, 12/1

Monday's selection

A quiet start to the week with just one selection but it is a two-pointer. All the best to:

Wind 5.40 Zero Cool 6-1 B365, Lads & VCBet 2pts

Not much to report after a disappointing performance, and annoying to see the selection drift half a point to go off at 13/2.

Confirmation of result with sp:

Zero Cool, 7th/10, 13/2

Sunday, 15 August 2010

Two today

A fairly quiet day of morning activity but a couple of selections today, to hopefully make it four winning days out of four!

Good luck to:

Pontefract 2.40 Eton Fable 14/1 Bet365 (16/1 Betfred Sportingbet) 1pt win

Bath 3.00 Kyllachy Storm 5/1 Bet365 Will Hill and others (11/2 Sportingbet) 1pt win

Well four winning days in a row would have been quite something given the odds we play at, and sadly it wasn't to be today. Eton Fable led for a long time, and looked threatening for a moment or two, but faded out of it. Kyllachy Storm was quite nicely backed and like Eton Fable was up there, but also faded near the finish.

Still, a profitable weekend and a good few days. We're just about level for the month, but certainly are due some more returns so hopefully things can continue to kick on.

Confirmation of results with SPs:

Eton Fable, 10th/10, 12/1

Kyllachy Storm, 6th/8, 7/2

Saturday, 14 August 2010

Three today

We're looking to make it three winning days in a row with three selections today.

All the best to:

Doncaster 1.50 Bid For Gold 8/1 Ladbrokes Will Hill and others 1pt win

Doncaster 4.00 Smarty Socks 6/1 Coral and others (13/2 Sporting Bet) 1pt win

Lingfield 8.00 Nolecce 6/1 Paddy Power VC Will Hill (7/1 Bluesq) 1pt win

Smarty Socks' terrific win at Doncaster made it three winning days out of a three with a nice five point profit in total.

Bid For Gold was only beaten around two lengths in all, staying on quite well at the finish. Smarty Socks was always travelling well in the 4.00, and then quickened nicely close to home. Nolecce was a non runner.

Confirmation of results with sps:

Bid For Gold, 6th/11, 14/1

Smarty Socks, 1st/12, 11/2

Nolecce NR

Friday Four

After the good results yesterday we hope to keep the ball rolling with one or two of these, so good fortune to:

Not 2.20 Supermarine 8-1 general 1pt

Not 4.05 Sumerian 5-1 general 2pts

Nkt 7.05 Oh So Saucy 5-1 general 1pt

Cat 8.30 This Ones For Eddy 6-1 W H , 5s general 1pt

Two profitable days in a row, much more like it, with Oh So Saucy putting in a cracking performance to win at Newmarket tonight. She drifted before the off to 7/1 which isn't really the idea but with best odds guaranteed in play it all helps, and I think we're owed one or two of those given how many horses really well punted have gone down just lately.

The other two today also drifted, on a day of changing ground conditions. Supermarine led early but faded, while Sumerian looked threatening for a while at Nottingham, looming up near the leaders going around the bend, but just faded hugely in the last couple of furlongs.

This Ones For Eddy was a non runner tonight.

Let's hope things can continue to kick on tomorrow!

Confirmation of results with sps:

Supermarine, 5th/7, 16/1

Sumerian, 6th/7, 6/1

Oh So Saucy, 1st/9, 7/1
