Close to a cracker!

May's been a mixed month so far. Loads of our selections have been running really well, we've had 24 of our 50 horses placed (48%), at an average price of 8.01/1, but we're sitting with a marginal loss (-1.5pts) thanks to our win only strategy.

There will be spells when backing win only will reap serious dividends, and there will be spells, when you're knocking on the door but not smashing through, which are a tad frustrating.

But in our experience, long term (yes that phrase again) backing win only is for the best, and we just have to suck up days like today, with two second placed finishes from our two selections.

We had:

TIME COURSE SELECTION 1pt/2pt win Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)

6.30 Sedge Darkan Road 1pt 7-1 B365, Lads (BOG) 8-1 S James
7.30 Sedge Papa Drew 1pt 9/1 generally (BOG) 10/1 Totesport

Darkan Road ran well, kept off the pace he came with a rattling late run on his chase debut but couldn't get past the winner, after starting at 9/2. We'll never know of course, but just a sense that if he was a bit closer to the pace he may have gone one better.

Then Papa Drew, who started at 15/2, put in a sterling effort, trading odds on in the closing stages after being right up there for the whole contest, he went down by a neck to the 20/1 winner.

Confirmation of results with prices (advised --- SP):

Darkan Road, 2nd/5, 7/1 --- 9/2
Papa Drew, 2nd/11, 9//1 --- 15/2

Two good efforts, and on another day it would have been a cracker, but we shake ourselves down and look forward to tomorrrow!
