Bouncing back

A cracking day with 20pts of profit thanks to two winners from our four selections.

The Market Examiner team were at Cheltenham today and it was a great 15 minutes watching two winners go in back to back in a Totesport betting shop, including a 2pt winner at 9/1, which went off at 5s. At that stage it was looking like it could be an exceptional day, with two more selections left to run, but sadly we couldn't follow up, although the next two both ran pretty well too.

It started in the 2.00 at Fontwell, where we had Warne's Way (1pt) at 5/1. Returning to hurdles after three flat outings, he was very well supported and went off 7/2 favourite. Liam Treadwell gave him a peach of a ride, as he looked up against it after the last, but rallied brilliantly to win by a neck.

It wasn't long to wait before the next of ours, the 2.10 at Market Rasen, where we had Ursis (2pt) at 9/1. Going back to the scene of his last win, he opened at 15/2 before being backed into 5/1. The support was absolutely justified as he absolutely hosed up by nine lengths to give us an 18pt return.

23pts to the good then, we looked forward to the 2.45 at Market Rasen with expectation of another big ride with another selection extremely well backed. Pennek (2pt) was an 8/1 pick, and opened on course at 6/1 before being supported further into 4/1 at the off. James Reveley had him in the lead for a good while, and he was going very well before suddenly hitting a flat spot, and fading. He traded as low as 1.77 in running, but in the end could only finish third. Still, excellent value had and we looked forward to the next and final pick for the day.

Sybarite (1pt) was a 6/1 choice for us, but actually went off at at 8s in the 3.30 at Cheltenham. It was the gelding's first try over hurdles for Nigel Twiston-Davies and he ran a cracker, briefly leading a couple of furlongs out after being prominent throughout. A poor jump two out didn't help though, and he ended up staying on well into second behind the impressive Champion Court.

So a really good day all told, 20pts up and things pulled back really strongly for November. Hopefully we can keep things moving forward this week.

Confirmation of results with sps:

Warne's Way, 1st/9, 7/2
Ursis, 1st/6, 5/1
Pennek, 3rd/5, 4/1
Sybarite, 2nd/8, 8/1

Saturday was altogether less eventful. Just the one pick, Jeringa (2pt) at 6/1, in the 1.45 at Wetherby. Nicely backed, he went off at 9/2 and went on to run well for a while, before fading abruptly and pulling up. Not sure something went amiss, but all the same, two points lost on the day.

Confirmation of result with sp:

Jeringa, PU/5, 9/2
