Bouncing back

It's been a funny old month, but we've ended it in good style with three winners out of three selections this weekend. It seems to be the weekend for hat-tricks!

It hasn't quite pulled July back into profit, but the month ends just 4.8pts down, which we certainly would have taken on Friday night.

We had just the one selection on Saturday:

TIME COURSE SELECTION 1pt/2pt win Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)
5.50 Nkt Zero Money 1pt 9-2 general, 5-1 B365

The cash really came for Roger Charlton's 5yo on his second attempt at six furlongs in less than a week. Starting at 2/1 he eased into a good lead and was always travelling really strongly, before being pushed out to win by more than two lengths, very nice. There was a 5p r4 deduction so a 4.75/1 winner.

Then today we had:

TIME COURSE SELECTION 1pt/2pt win Bookmaker(s) / Price(s)

2.00 M Rasen General Elliott 1pt 8-1 general BOG
3.40 M Rasen King in Waiting 1pt 5-1 general BOG 6-1 Betfred (BOG) Tote

General Elliott was a very ready winner of his race at Market Rasen, and gave us the perfect start for the day. The win was soured greatly however by the sad demise of the favourite A Stones Throw who was just trying to lay down a challenge to ours when he went wrong. It's been a tough week or so in the racing world for this sort of incident, and it's never nice to see, obviously our condolences go to connections.

With 8pts in the bag for the 8/1 winner we were encouraged to see King in Waiting continue to be supported into 3/1 for the 3.40, and he didn't disappoint, always travelling really nicely he cruised into the lead and won by an eased down ten lengths. We're marking him down as a 5/1 winner although hopefully many of our members would have got the 6/1 which was available for a few minutes.

Confirmation of results with prices (advised --- SP):

Saturday 30th July 2011:

Zero Money, 1st/15, 4.75/1(after r4)--- 2/1

Sunday 31st July 2011:

General Elliott, 1st/13, 8/1 --- 8/1
King in Waiting, 1st/8, 5/1 --- 3/1

So with three winners in a row, can we make it four to get August off to a flying start, let's hope so!

We'll be conducting our review of July in the next couple of days.

  1. Hi, I'm confused - why does one horse with a standout price at 365 get proofed at that price, but another horse with a standout price at betfred and tote get proofed at the general price?

    Thanks

  2. Hi anon, thanks for your interest.

Basically we try our best to see whether a price has held up for a reasonable amount of time, and if so, we can then put that price up, but if standout price(s) go within a few minutes, then we will list whatever price was more readily available.

Fundamentally we do try to be as accurate and as realistic as we can when listing our results, and often will put up returns less than quite a few of our members will have been able to achieve.

    All the best
    Sam
